On October 27, 2023, the Moscow City Court sentenced 66-year-old scientist Anatoly Gubanov to 12 years in a maximum security penal colony, finding him guilty of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). This is reported by a Mediazona correspondent.
Details: Anatoly Gubanov has been in pretrial detention since December 3, 2020. Anatoly Gubanov headed the aircraft and rocket aerodynamics department of the Zhukovsky Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) near Moscow. His subordinate was 70-year-old Valery Golubkin, who was sentenced in June to 12 years in a maximum security penal colony, also found guilty of treason. Gubanov was detained in December 2020, and a few months later Golubkin was also detained, both ended up in pre-trial detention. According to investigators, in 2018, Gubanov invited Golubkin to work on the creation of a hypersonic passenger aircraft as part of the international HEXAFLY-INT project. The scientists passed on reports on their work to their colleagues in the Netherlands – the investigation found state secrets in these documents. At the same time, “First Department” emphasizes that the specialists checked the reports three times before sending them to the Netherlands and did not find any state secrets in them.
