Summary: On October 28, 2023, Meduza reported that the Zelenograd District Court of Moscow arrested Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET) student Daniil Voytovich for five days, finding him guilty of displaying prohibited symbols (Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) because of the cover of his student ID with a white-red-white flag. This is stated in the court ruling. The court also fined Voytovich 35 thousand rubles under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

Details: The ruling states that Voytovich showed his student ID with this cover when entering the university, as well as when buying a train ticket. According to the court, the white-red-white flag is a symbol of the armed formation “Kastus Kalinovsky Regiment”, which, as stated in the ruling, is “a branch on the territory of the Republic of Belarus” of the “Freedom of Russia” legion, Meduza reports.

In addition to administrative arrest for five days, the court ordered the confiscation of the cover of Voitovich’s student ID “with the image of the symbols of an extremist organization”. The court also fined Voitovich 35 thousand rubles under the article on “discrediting” the Russian army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The ruling states that on September 15, in the presence of 10 students and a teacher, he said “Citizens of the Russian Federation and the government of the Russian Federation are fascists, unlike citizens of Ukraine” and “Glory to Ukraine”, the Telegram channel Beware, news reports.

During the trial of physicist Oleg Kabov, it emerged that the criminal case had been initiated by two of his former students. It also became clear that the embezzlement case lacked any financial evidence, and that the allegations regarding the falsification of Kabov’s scientific results had been manufactured by FSB officers. The prosecution is demanding a seven-year prison term, a significant fine, and a three-year prohibition on conducting scientific research. The defendant has asked the judge to reopen the investigation. The judge must now decide whether there is sufficient information to deliver a verdict or if the case should be sent back for further investigation.
