Summary: On May 14, 2024 Sergey Gulko was expelled from the sixth year of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at Moscow State University, RIA Novosti reports, citing the university. The student had previously been placed under administrative arrest three times, including for posts on social networks.
Details: The university emphasized that Gulko’s academic performance had not raised any concerns. However, the decision to expel him was made on the basis of “identified violations and imposed administrative penalties,” Novaya Gazeta Europe quotes a message from the press service of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University.
A native of Odessa and Ukrainian citizen, Sergei Gulko lived in the university dormitory on Lomonosovsky Prospekt, RIA Novosti reports.
On April 3, 2024 Gulko was detained for the first time for allegedly disobeying the police. Later, posts were found on his social networks that, according to the authorities, “incited hatred.” Gulko himself suspects that he was the victim of denunciations.
On April 26, 2024 Gulko was arrested for 12 days for violating Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).
On May 18, 2024 Sergey Gulko left Russia. In a conversation with Mediazona, Sergey Gulko clarified that he initially flew to Georgia at his own expense, but was not allowed through at the border. Now Gulko is in another country with his girlfriend, but asks not to disclose his location.
