Summary: On June 24, 2024, a criminal case was opened against historian Tamara Eidelman (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) for the rehabilitation of Nazism, the Moscow prosecutor’s office reports. “Based on the results of the inspection by the Moscow City Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal case has been opened against Tamara Eidelman,” the department said in a statement. Eidelman is charged with rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), Interfax reports.
Details: As previously stated by the Moscow prosecutor’s office, “during monitoring of the Internet on a video hosting site, a public channel administered by foreign agent Tamara Eidelman was discovered, where a video recording of her author’s program was posted, containing statements expressing obvious disrespect for the day of military glory of Russia and a memorable date of Russia associated with the defense of the Fatherland, as well as insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland.” Eidelman is currently abroad.
January 4, 2025 RIA Novosti reports: “A criminal case has been opened against Tamara Eidelman under paragraph “b” of Part 2 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rehabilitation of Nazism using the Internet),” citing a source from the law enforcement agency. Previously, a criminal case had already been opened against her under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rehabilitation of Nazism committed by a group of persons, by prior agreement or using the Internet). RIA Novosti recalls that the article provides for a fine of 2 to 5 million rubles, forced labor for up to 5 years, or imprisonment for the same period.
