Type of violation: dismissal
Institution: St. Petersburg State Institute of Cinema and Television
Summary: The management of the St. Petersburg State Institute of Cinema and Television offered film critic Anzhelika Artyukh to resign “of her own free will.” This was reported by “Beware of News” with a link to Artyukh’s now hidden post on Facebook.
Details: As Anzhelika Artyukh said, the institute’s administration was afraid to keep her in her position because of her research into Western cinema, her receipt of a scholarship from the Fulbright Foundation, and her trips to the United States. Angelica Artyukh links her dismissal to her participation in a rally in support of Navalny in 2021, the persecution of professors visiting Western countries, as well as the change of the rector at St. Petersburg State Institute of Film and Television (SPbGIKiT) – the previous one, according to university employees, was forced to resign from his post in December 2022.
